Reading: Daniel 4:19-27
“Make a clean break with your sins and start living for others. Quit your wicked life and look after the needs of the down-and-out. Then you will continue to have a good life.” (Dan 4:27 msg)
Daniel was reluctant to tell the king what his dream meant. The king’s future was not bright. He was going to have an emotional breakdown. He would have to leave his royal duties.
Daniel challenged the king to repent, to turn from immoral patterns of life, and to give attention to the needs of the poor in his kingdom. Sadly King Nebuchadnezzar did not accept Daniel’s advice.
Lent is the season of the year for a spiritual self-appraisal. We ask God to make us aware of attitudes and habits that need changing. We stand before the cross inviting God to cleanse us of wrong, to heal us of hurt, to renew a right spirit within us.
God, help me see my weakness and sin, my negative attitudes and hurtful habits. “Purify me from my sins and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.”
