Daniel Fast Day 18
Reading: Daniel 2:28b-44
“As for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because I have greater wisdom than anyone else alive, but so that Your Majesty may know the interpretation and that you may understand what went through your mind.” (v 30)
The king couldn’t remember his dream. And it was driving him crazy. Literally. He was having a huge anxiety attack. He was planning to kill all his advisors unless they could tell him both the dream and its meaning.
Daniel was doing exactly that. He was bringing the king peace of mind. So he could relax. So he could sleep again. So he could with confidence restored lead a large and unruly empire.
But Daniel had a larger mission. He wanted to connect the king with the Great King, and a kingdom “that will never be destroyed” (v 44). God was giving Daniel a glimpse of a future that even Daniel could not fully understand.
We experience anxiety about the future. What is going to happen? How will we be affected by coming events? How will all this end? How can we find security in the face of a fearful future.
Fasting creates hunger so we may rest our longing in God’s abundant provision. We place our future, our uncertainties, our fears in the hands of the one who controls seasons and time itself. “My future is in your hands” (Psalm 31:15 nlt).
God, I am anxious about the future. But today I place my times, my fears, my future in your hands. “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation”…nothing will be able to separate me from your love in Messiah Jesus.
