Daniel Fast Day 15
Reading: Daniel 2:24-28
“No wise man, enchanter, magician or diviner can explain to the king the mystery he has asked about, but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.” (vs 27-28)
Take me to the king, Daniel said. I will interpret his dream for him.
Does Daniel sound self-confident? Not really. He was confident, not in his own wisdom and insights, but because he had heard from God. He was in touch with God’s insights. Not self-confidence but God-confidence.
Fasting is a discipline designed to diminish our self-confidence (we stop eating some foods we like) and to increase our God-confidence (hungering and thirsting for God). I can’t but God can.
God, I still hunger for certain foods. I miss some of my favorite drinks. I turn my heart and spirit to you. Like a deer panting for water, so my soul longs after you.
You alone are my strength and shield
To you alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart’s desire
And I long to worship you.
