Ashes to Beauty—an Update on Tacloban, Philippines

Ashes to Beauty—an Update on Tacloban, Philippines

Half of the special offering that we took up in November for Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines was sent to First Love International. Money donated to First Love was used in Tacloban and on Penay Island. This email from our partners there shows relief work down on Tacloban, which was the island most severely devastated. Thank you for the awesome things your generosity is helping to accomplish!

 … bring good news to the poor; bind up the brokenhearted, proclaim liberty to the captives, comfort all who mourn;

… bring beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit…

from Isaiah 61:1-3

It has now been over 6 months since Super Typhoon Yolanda/ Haiyan devastated the Philippines with over 200 MPH winds and ocean surges of up to 30 feet! In just a matter of minutes thousands upon thousands of people were left in shambles, but because God has used you, Task Force Tacloban of First Love has been able to show Christ’s love in action through hands-on teams of faithful men & women.

At present, our committed Filipino team continues working 6 days a week in an effort to offer hope and joy for an entire community of people who were most affected! Many thanks to those of you who have cared and given sacrificially to this cause.

Over 100 homes have been repaired or rebuilt…

A new church/ministry center has been planted and 80-100 people are now attending weekly worship services.

. . . that the LORD may be glorified! They shall build up the old ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities.
